First Meet with Prof. Poncelet regarding the project :)
I'm writing this quite late so I don't even remember properly what all happened in it. But let's start form the beginning
STAPLE
STAPLE stands for Shower Thoughts About Precision LHC Eventsimulation (Such a cool name right??!?)
seriously, who comes up with these acronyms??Wait, I think we'll have to go further back.....or maybe not, I'll have to explain a lot about Standard Model, Particle Physics and all and tbh, even I don't know everyhing to be able to explain it properly. Will probably add another post when I have learned about all* this :)

So here it is: STAPLE is a project in the particle physics domain, where you take two particles, collide them and then study the "shower" that is visible in the wake of that collision.
Now we collide two protons together which is a a type of hadron(thus the name Large Hadron Collider). There is an initial "hard" collision where hadrons break into 2 or 3 particles. These then travel and further break into subsequent particles and so on and we get a shower of these particles. This shower is called the parton shower.
So yeah, this was basically the intro with which Prof. Poncelet started the meet and then explained what part of the project I could contribute in. That is with the simulation of this parton shower, using a Monte Carlo technique called Sudakov Veto Algorithm. Not just simulating but trying out new stuff with the alorithm, changing the kernel, and experimenting what happens.... and then documenting all this so that it can be used later in the project.

He said he'd send some reading material about the algorithm and that would be the first step. More about that in the next blog!
